Paul A. Carr

Former Anchorage, Alaska, resident Paul A. Carr passed away from COVID-19 complications on Dec. 29, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nev. Paul was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 25, 1938. He spent his younger years in Denver, Colo., where he graduated from South High School. After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Paul attended Montana State University graduating with a degree in geography and economics.

Paul was predeceased by his mother, Alice Carr; father, Byron Carr; and brother, Douglass. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Scotta; and two daughters, Stacey Carr and Kristine Hernandez. He also leaves behind three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Paul will also be greatly missed by his many friends.

Paul's first job was a land use planner for the State of Montana. He moved, with his family, to Anchorage in 1971, to continue his career as a planner. He worked for the Greater Anchorage Area Borough, the State of Alaska and in the private sector. In the early 1980s, Paul served on the New Capitol Site Planning Commission. He described his position with the commission as "a Planner's dream." After retiring in 1993, Paul and Scotta, moved to the state of Washington. In 2013, after snow birding for several years between Nevada and Washington, Paul and Scotta moved to Pahrump, Nev., to enjoy the warmer, dryer, sunny days. Paul also served on the Anchorage and Pahrump Planning Commissions.

While living in Alaska, Prince William Sound was Paul and Scotta's get away place. For 20 years they accumulated many many fond memories of their boating experiences and the friends they shared the Sound with. Paul's passion for boating resulted in him becoming a member of the Prince William Sound U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Paul was also a life member of the Elk's.
