Olin Noble Race

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, Olin Noble Race, beloved husband and father of three children, passed away, at age 86. Olin was born on Feb. 20, 1934, in Vernon, Pa., to Charles and Ida (Cook) Race. Olin was one of nine sons born to Charles and Ida Race. After graduating from Dallas High School in Dallas, Pa., in 1952, Olin attended Practical Bible Training School in Johnson City, N.Y., receiving a diploma in pastoral studies in 1956. Olin met Elsie (Houck) in 1953, at Bible college and they married in 1955. This past June was their 65th wedding anniversary. They raised one daughter, Patricia, and two sons, Lawrence and Jerry. Olin was Ordained into the Gospel Ministry in November 1956 while pastoring the Italy Naples Baptist Church near Rochester, N.Y. He pastored churches for over 56 years in New York, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. One church ministry produced a Sunday morning radio broadcast. In 2015, Olin received an honorary doctorate in Theology from Faith Baptist School of Theology in Seneca, Pa.

Olin is survived by his wife, Elsie; daughter, Patricia Friend (Louis); sons, Lawrence (Kay) and Jerry (Sandy); several grandchildren, Heather Butcher, Heidi Weaver, Holly Lynn, Julie Black, Lori Cavanaugh, Susan Hunsinger, Jonathan, Charles, Katie, Jared, Shane and Keith Race; and 23 great-grandchildren, of whom one great-grandson was born on the same day Olin went home to be with the Lord. Olin found great joy in his grandchildren. Olin's surviving brothers are Dana, Orville, Daniel, George and Jacob Race. Due to COVID-19 considerations, a private service will be held at Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home on Sept. 18, 2020, at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Charles England.
