Nancy Louise Olson passed away on Oct. 3, 2026, peacefully in her sleep. Nancy was born on March 27, 1950, and raised in Thief River Falls, Minnesota by Wendell and Aileen Olson. She attended elementary and high school in Thief River Falls before going to the University of Minnesota in 1968, graduating with a degree in Home Economics. She then attained an additional degree in Education. She also completed a Master's Program in Special Education. She enjoyed many years with her parents at their cabin on Lake of the Woods in Canada. Her time fishing and water-skiing was the highlight of her younger years.

Nancy moved to Southern California for a short time before following a friend to Anchorage, Alaska in 1984, looking for a new adventure. She met Ron Gerling shortly after arriving in Alaska (deceased 2015) with whom she shared her life, marrying in 2005, deeply enjoying the outdoors with her husband and pets. Nancy loved spending time gardening, riding horses, walking the numerous trails near their property and traveling. Nancy worked for Allen and Peterson for a short time before starting her teaching career with the Anchorage School District.

She enjoyed her church fellowship at Joy Lutheran Church in Eagle River and singing in the choir.

Nancy is survived by her brother, Larry Olson of Upland California; her nephew, Matthew Gerling of Eagle River, Alaska; and her Niece, Kristin Gerling Ashby of Prineville, Oregon.

A celebration of life will be held at Joy Lutheran Church in Eagle River Alaska on Oct. 22, 2026. 2 p.m. with refreshments to follow, 10111 E. Eagle River Loop Rd Eagle
