Michael Benjamin, age 27, died on April 22, 2021, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, surrounded by his family.
Michael Richard Benjamin was born on Nov. 1, 1993, in Reno, Nev. Seventy-two hours later Rick and Deloris Benjamin saw him for the first time, brought him to Alaska, and adopted him as their son. Michael grew up in their home on Strutz Avenue in South Anchorage. As a little boy Michael put his faith in Jesus, and his dad baptized him along with his brother David.
He had many great experiences with his family: camping trips, vacations to Disneyland and Hawaii, two trips to the Winter X Games and an extended visit to Hungary and Southern Africa. At age 6, he hiked the Resurrection Pass Trail with his dad, his brother and his grandfather. Michael enjoyed skateboarding, snowboarding, golf and Xbox games. He attended Heritage Christian School, and then ASD schools beginning at sixth grade. Michael graduated from Service High School in 2012.
Michael worked as a Direct Support Professional at Hope Community Resources, and a project assistant for Habitat for Humanity. He liked jobs where he was helping people. He was also a construction worker and painter for his brother's remodeling business.
Michael was known for his big caring heart, and his loyalty to his many friends. He could relate to all kinds of people. He was intelligent, and he had a great smile. Through all his struggles he kept his connection to God. He had a wonderful spiritual experience on March 28, 2021, for which is family is very grateful. He loved his dad and mom, his brother and his nephew Tucker very much. He died knowing he was loved by God and his family.
Michael Benjamin is survived by his parents, Rick and Deloris Benjamin; brother, David Benjamin; and nephew, Tucker Benjamin, all of Anchorage; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
A Celebration of Michael Benjamin's life will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021, with visitation at 2 p.m. and service at 3 p.m., at Unite Church, 2626 Abbott Road in Anchorage.
