Mary Schneider

Mary was born in Manhattan, New York City, and was raised in Hawthorn, N.Y. After graduating high school, she attended Vassar College and went on to work at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In 1967, Mary moved to Anchorage, Alaska, and worked for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

She was passionate about gardening, music and all things Alaskan. Mary was one of Anchorage's Master Gardeners, sang with the Anchorage Community Chorus and Anchorage Opera. She embraced an Alaska lifestyle that included berry picking, fishing, hunting and outdoor recreation.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Schneider. She is survived by her son, Norm Knowles (Donnye Sabo, Kristina Orvis, Amanda Ponce and Bryan McGruder); and daughter, Katherine Ito (Jacob Ito and Jaden Ito).

Mary's ashes will be scattered by family, in the Alaska wilderness that she loved so much.
