Marsha "Penny" Greene passed away on Aug. 11, 2026, in Anchorage, Alaska, at the age of 83. Born in Chicago, Ill., on June 17, 1943, Penny was a devoted Catholic whose life was centered on faith, family and service. She was deeply loved as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife, and she gave generously to her community through volunteer work with her church, Bishop's Attic, PEO and other community organizations. Penny also supported her late husband, Deacon Ted Greene, throughout his ministry, often working quietly behind the scenes so he could serve churches throughout the Anchorage area.
Penny earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. Her career took many interesting turns, from working for the FDA after college to roles in IT and banking, and later to real estate, where she especially loved helping first-time buyers. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed a challenging crossword or sudoku, and passed along her love of jigsaw puzzles to her children and grandchildren.
Penny moved to Alaska with her family in 1978 for a "few years," which turned into 48 years of love, community and friendships that became family.
She is survived by her children, Joelle Greene, Ted Greene III and Jill and Robert Dutton; nephews, Richard and James Hickey; and niece, Lynn Hickey. She was a proud grandmother to Nicholas Greene, Daniel Dutton, Mitchell Boggs, Noah Greene, Sydney and Nick Schneider, Victoria Dutton, Hannah Greene and Gina Boggs; and great-grandmother to Charlotte Schneider. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Greene; parents, Joseph and Martha Hickey; and brother, Martin Hickey.
Services to honor Penny's life will be held on Aug. 21, 2026, at St. Patrick's Parish, 2111 Muldoon Road in Anchorage, at 12 p.m.
