Marie Loth Lockett, beloved mother, passed away peacefully at her home in Junction City, Ore., on Aug. 17, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born in Newcastle, Wyo., on July 18, 1938, to Jacob and Thelma Loth. After moving to South Dakota, Marie graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1956.
After graduation, Marie married Ralph Barnard and began their adventure as they drove to Alaska, homesteading in Kenny Lake on the Copper River. Marie embraced the Alaska life. She filled their cabin with music, laughter and the sound of her singing in the kitchen.
In 1966, Marie and Ralph moved to Anchorage, Alaska, and built their home on O'Malley Road. Although they divorced in 1977, Marie and Ralph remained lifelong friends.
Marie retired from the State of Alaska and in 1979, she married Kent Lockett; together they traveled the country. Marie and Kent returned to Alaska, settling in Funny River. When Kent passed away in 2011, Marie returned to the family home in Oregon.
Becoming a grandmother was one of Marie's greatest joys. She treasured her grandchildren and was lovingly known as "Gigi" to her great-grandchildren.
Marie enjoyed gardening, traveling, staying connected with friends and making quilts to wrap her loved ones in.
Marie is survived by her son, Kevin Barnard (Janet); daughter, Kris Boots (Dan); grandchildren, Tony Adame, Jacob Strouckel, Liz Potter (Kyle), Kate Strouckel (Kevin Best) and Lisa Donnally (Steve); sister, Joann Durbin; and stepchildren, Ross Lockett, David Lockett and Jeanine Lockett-Berry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kent Lockett; parents, Jacob and Thelma Loth; as well as nephew, Roger Durbin; and stepson, Jon Lockett.
A funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Junction City on Sept. 5, 2026, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Junction City.
Marie leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, service and friendship. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
