Marian "Marnie" Brennan, 84, passed away on Oct. 11, 2026, in Tucson, Ariz., where she and her husband had recently moved to be near family. Born in Worcester, Mass., to Thomas and Rita Moroney, Marnie lived a life filled with adventure, accomplishment, generosity and love.
Marnie began her career as a reporter for the Worcester Telegram, where she met Tom Brennan, her husband of 60 years. They married in 1966 and soon drove an International Travelall, towing a houseboat along the gravel Alcan Highway to Alaska.
In Anchorage, Marnie became editor of the Anchorage Times Women's section before serving as vice president of Brennan and Brennan Communications, the public relations firm Tom founded. Together, they launched The Alaska Collection, a mail-order business featuring Alaskan products. She later held executive marketing and communications positions at Anchorage Telephone Utility, Alaska Communication Systems and TelAlaska. Her honors included recognition from the Anchorage Athena Society and the Alaska Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America's Alaska Communicator of the Year award. Marnie generously shared her exceptional writing and editing skills, helping countless people with resumes, proposals and job applications.
For more than 40 years, she welcomed friends and neighbors into her home for Christmas Eve socials and eggnog celebrations, creating cherished traditions and lasting friendships. She also volunteered for many years at the Alaska Zoo, serving on its board and chairing its annual gala.
Marnie and Tom shared a deep love for Linnell Landing on Cape Cod, where they fulfilled a longtime dream by purchasing and renovating a beach cottage they enjoyed in retirement.
She is survived by Tom; sons Peter (Kelsey) Brennan and Tobin (Angie) Brennan; grandchildren, Madelyn (Paul) Menke, Gavin Brennan, Tommy (Priscilla) Brennan and Trevor Brennan; brothers, Tom and Bob Moroney; and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Ellen Mowery.
Marnie's laughter, kindness, and generosity will be deeply missed. No formal services are planned. Friends and loved ones are encouraged to gather this holiday season to share memories and celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alaska Zoo.
