Longtime Anchorage. Alaska, resident Manfred Keller, 80, died on Dec. 17, 2022, at his home.
Born on July 21, 1942, in Bremerhaven, Germany, he immigrated with his parents to the United States in 1956.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base. Under the GI Bill he obtained his pilot's license and was a bush pilot, then flew Sky Vans with the the discovery of oil in Prudhoe Bay and the construction of the Haul Road. Subsequently he worked for the FAA as an air traffic controller, and then as a system analyst on the air traffic control system until his retirement.
He was an avid fisherman and captained his boat, the Laisse Faire, out of Seward, Alaska, for many years. He served as the offshore equipment manager during the Valdez oil spill clean up.
He is survived by his wife, Mickey Keller of Anchorage; sister, Valeska Jefferies of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Dorothy Blair; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charlie Keller.
The family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association, in lieu of flowers.
Funeral services to be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Legacy Funeral Homes Kehl's Chapel.
