Apr 29, 2026

Lora Jean Eddy (Simpkins), 68, of Eagle River, Alaska, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Born on May 21, 1957, in Logan, W.Va., Lora was the daughter of Delores Dale Simpkins and Daniel Boone Simpkins. After graduating from Man High School, she joined the United States Air Force in June 1975. Early in her career, while stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska, she met the love of her life, Allen Eddy Sr., her husband of 35 years. After 20 years of service to her country, Lora retired as a Technical Sergeant in June 1995. She often recalled her years in the USAF as the best of her life. She later continued her public service with the State of Alaska in the Department of Natural Resources in Anchorage, retiring in 2020.

Lora loved her family dearly. Taking care of her family—whatever was needed and whenever it was needed—was how she most strongly demonstrated her love. She was easy to talk to, always answering calls and messages from family and the many friends she made throughout her life. A talented painter, she could capture the landscapes she loved with a brush and canvas; a devoted gardener, she nurtured plants even when the long Alaska winters meant her garden lived indoors. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren and kept the family swear jar well-funded. Her love, humor, banana bread and colorful vocabulary will be remembered always.

Lora is survived by her sons, Allen Jr. (Jamie) and Daniel (Stephanie); stepdaughters, Kimberly, Robin (Dee) and Shawn (Paul); grandchildren, James, Danny, Brooklyn, Emily, Hunter, Gunner, Eden, Paul Jr. and Kimberly; great-granddaughter, Morgan; furry "grandbabies," Bristol and Juno; and sisters, Julie Ann (Earl), Gina Gail, Barbara (Grant) and Naomi Sue (Alan). She was preceded in death by her parents, Delores (2004) and Daniel (2018); beloved husband, Allen (2013); and brother, Larry (2020).

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Riverside Community Church in Eagle River, at 10:30 a.m., with interment at Fort Richardson National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Lora wished for donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or K-LOVE Radio.
