Oct 10, 2025

Lawrence Boyd Taylor passed away at home due to complications from an ALS diagnosis in June. He was surrounded by love in his last days and the entire summer as his community of friends and family came together to support him.

Larry was born in Oregon to Nancy and Edward Taylor. He grew up in a small town with his sisters, Barbara (Goetsch) and Jan (Monfore). He learned to hunt and fish with his father, and he participated in swimming and track. He earned a track scholarship to Southern Oregon College, and it was there that he met the catch of his life, Elaine. They were married shortly after and celebrated 60 years of adventure together in July.

In 1967, Larry was offered a teaching position in Anchorage and accepted it expecting to spend just a couple years in Alaska. Larry and Elaine found community, adventure and opportunity. They spent the rest of their lives in Alaska raising kids, fishing, skiing, running a construction business, traveling, and adventuring.

Larry is survived by his wife, Elaine; his sister, Jan (Monfore); his children, Lisa (Brest) and Trent (Taylor); his grandchildren, Jazmin (Taylor), Tiana (Taylor), Toni (Taylor), George (Brest), Sam (Brest), Zoe (Brest), Liv (Taylor), Louis (Taylor); and Great granddaughter Opal (Taylor).

Larry will be greatly missed and remembered with respect and love by all that knew him.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Larry on November 16th at 2 p.m. at O'Malley's on the Green that is open to all who wish to come.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Challenge Alaska as Larry's last months in a wheelchair emphasized how much more effort is needed to get out and enjoy life when confined to a wheelchair.
