Julie Ann Cross, born on Aug. 8, 1951, passed away from a brain aneurysm on April 21, 2026, with her loving friends and family by her side. Leaving a legacy of art, laughter and caregiving, Julie was born in Long Beach, Calif. She showed an artistic touch from an early age, crafting hanging art through her youth and motherhood. In 1981, she drove the Alcan Highway north from the Mojave Desert to Alaska, the place she would call home for the rest of her days.
Despite losing her first husband in 1982, Julie found love again with Michael Hurn. Together, they spent 40 years raising four boys and running a custom t-shirt screen printing shop from their home. Over the years, Julie also nourished a deep love for adventure, traveling extensively throughout the United States and overseas. Her sharp artistic eye, razor-sharp wit and memorable humor defined everything she did. She was a devoted caregiver to anyone in need, an incredible cook and the ultimate host for holiday gatherings.
Preceded in death by her parents, Katherine (Kaye) Lee O'Banion and Vernon Dale Casey; husbands, Michael Lee Cross (d. 1982) and Michael Scott Hurn Sr. (d. 2021); stepson, Michael Scott Hurn Jr. (d. 1999).
Survived by her sons, Jason Cross and Jesse Cross, both of Anchorage, Alaska; stepson, Harley D. Hurn of Alaska; grandchildren, Britany Hurn of Spokane, Wash., and Chelsey Hurn of Colorado; siblings, Rose Stewart, Bob Stewart, Jean Nuccio, Mike Stewart, Sheryl Dieteren, John Casey, Cliff Lowry and Alvis O'Banion Jr. and extended family; and numerous nieces and nephews spanning three large families.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, from 3-6 p.m., at the Buckaroo Club, 2811 Spenard Road, Anchorage, AK 99503. Family and friends are invited to come share stories and remember Julie's wonderful life.
