John Henry Taylor of Anchorage, Alaska, quietly passed quietly with his family by his side on at Providence Hospital on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the age of 75.
John was born on Feb. 5, 1946, in San Augustine, Texas. John is preceded in death by his parents, Lucy Garrett and Austin Taylor; and his sisters, Betty Flemmons, Mary Willis and RG Jiles.
John came to Anchorage with the U.S. Armed Forces. He was very active with VFW Post 9978, where he served as commander for two terms. John could always be found in the kitchen at the VFW cooking up something special for his fellow members.
John is survived by his wife, Terri; his sisters, Bobbie Barnes of San Augustine, and Bonnie Sue Tibbs of New Iberia, La.; stepchildren, Joshua Crawford, Kiara Harris, Felecia Gray-Johnson, Angela Gray, Veronica Gray, Natalie Jefferson, Allison Black and James Gray III (deceased); 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces and loving friends.
John's homegoing services will include:
A Viewing from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, and Funeral Service on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at 1 p.m. All services will be conducted at Legacy Funeral Home, 440 E Klatt Road Anchorage, AK 99515. Please be aware that due to the pandemic there will be limited seating available on-site, however, live streaming of the service will be available on legacyalaska.com.
Final Interment will occur immediately following the service, at Fort Richardson National Cemetery, 58-512 Davis Hwy. Anchorage, AK 99505.
A special Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at 4 p.m., at VFW 9978, 101 Oklahoma Street in Anchorage.
