Jimmie Lynn Shaw passed away on July 31, 2026, at the age of 72, in Wasilla, Alaska. He was born on Nov. 30, 1953, in Avon, Ill. Jim, always looking for adventure, moved his family to Alaska in 1979 while serving in the U.S. Army. He was in the Army from 1976 to 1983.
Jim's career as a telephone cable splicer with the Matanuska Telephone Association was marked by dedication and skill, a testament to his work ethic and commitment to connectivity in his community. His love for Alaska was paralleled by his passion for flying, racing motorcycles, four-wheelers, stock cars and sprint cars. Jim found joy in "mudding" with friends and cherished the perspective he gained from the skies above Alaska.
A family man at heart, Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Teresa; and their sons, Joseph, Jonah and Jacob. He was a beloved grandfather to nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who brought immense joy and laughter into his life. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Brice and Viola Shaw; and sister, Gloria Hareldson.
Jim was an active member of Messenger Christian Ministries, where he found a community of faith and fellowship. A military memorial and celebration of life will be held at a future date to honor Jim's legacy and his service in the U.S. Army.
The family suggests that contributions in Jim's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The Cremation Society of Alaska in Wasilla is assisting the family during this time. Jim's adventurous spirit and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
