James Stuhler passed away this summer at the age of 84. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He is survived by his wife of 65 years; his twin daughters; two sons; as well as his grandson; three granddaughters; and sons-in-law. His son, Joseph Thomas, preceded Mr. Stuhler in death.

Mr. Stuhler was always proud that three of his children are teachers; while his oldest son has the equivalent of two master's degrees as an automotive tech with VW and Audi.

At the age of 17, Mr. Stuhler joined the Army and while serving in the Korean War he received the Bronze Star with Valor for saving a fellow soldier's life, and the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. Mr. Stuhler went to Vietnam as a photojournalist, and many of his stories and pictures were published in Stars and Stripes and Life Magazine.

Mr. Stuhler's last military assignment was Fort Richardson, Alaska. After retiring from the military he worked for the Corp of Engineers and Public Affairs Office on Fort Richardson. In total, he served his country for over 50 years.

In retirement, Mr. Stuhler spent the remainder of his year's hunting, fishing and camping with his family. For Mr. Stuhler, there is no higher priority than one's family and country. He would always state, "I have such a wonderful family."

James Stuhler was extremely proud to serve his country. Thank you, dad, for the allegiance given to our country. We are honored to call you a hero. Mr. Stuhler was interned with full military honors at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
