James "Jim" Lammie

Aug 1, 1942 -

Dec 2, 2024

Jim Lammie, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in Tacoma, Wash., on Dec. 2, 2024, at the age of 82.

Born in Denver, Colo., Jim's life was marked by his love for family, community and the natural beauty of Alaska. He arrived in Anchorage, Alaska, courtesy of the U.S. Air Force, in the early 1960s and, once here, never wanted to live anywhere else.

Jim's strong work ethic was evident in his dedication to both his career and his family. A proud member of IBEW Local 1547, and owner of Denali Electric, Jim worked tirelessly for decades in the electrical industry, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. He was deeply committed to his church, Turnagain UMC, and participated as an active member of the Anchorage Concert Chorus, where he shared his love of music with others. Jim was generally reserved but delighted in a good pun, often to the chagrin of those around him.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed skiing, hiking and kayaking, always eager to explore the wild and rugged landscapes of Alaska. He embraced the state's natural beauty and captured it all through the lens of his camera. In later years, that love of the outdoors expanded to include the tropical beauty of Hawaii, where he and his wife thoroughly enjoyed annual visits to the island of Kauai.

Jim is survived by his wife of many years, Jane Oakley; children, Ricardo (Lauri) Galindez, Carina (Alex) Keen, Erin Smith and James (Jeralyn) Lammie Jr.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."
