Nikiski, Alaska, resident Jack E. Montagna, 74, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, at Central Peninsula Hospital.
A memorial service will be held on Aug. 22, 2025, in Ely, Minn.
Jack was born on Oct. 19, 1950, in Phillips, Wis. He worked for U.S. Steel MinnTac until moving to Alaska in 1984. In Alaska, he lived in Fairbanks, Anchorage and Nikiski, and worked for several oil companies on the North Slope as a pipefitter until retiring in 2010.
Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing.
His family wrote: "Jack lived for the outdoors, where he loved to fish and hunt. He was a generous man that would give the shirt off of his back if you needed it. Jack lived a good life, that was blessed with good jobs and family and friends who loved him."
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Faith Montagna and Darlene Coats; and brother, Virgil Montagna.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pauline Montagna of Nikiski; mother of his sons, Gwyne Montagna of Anchorage; sons, Kevin Montagna of Phoenix, Ariz., and Daniel Montagna of Anchorage; sisters, Irene Reckers and family of Phoenix, and Mary Dianoski and family of Fairbanks; grandchildren, Haley, Dylan, Emma and Peyton Montagna; and great-granddaughters, Ashlynn and Millie Montagna, all of Anchorage.
