Everett Hightower

Everett R. Hightower passed away at his home in Anchorage, Alaska, on July 18, 2026. His passing was unexpected, and thankfully he did not have to suffer prolonged poor health. He will be greatly missed and touched many people's lives.

While he was raised a southern boy, it didn't take long for Alaska to captivate him. He moved to Alaska in 1979 after spending several summers exploring the Brooks Range with the National Outdoor Leadership School. Everett established himself from the start in rural Alaska, where he helped build essential components of the community in Bettles and Anaktuvuk Pass. Later in 1981, he began working in the oil field where he was instrumental on projects until his retirement. Anyone who met Everett knew the satisfaction he got from a job well done.

In his retirement, Everett spent his summers living at his remote cabin in the Brooks Range. He instilled his love for the outdoors and the natural world in his friends and family. He was truly at home in the woods. Everet had three children: Catherine, Max and Ben. We are grateful he had a chance to get to know his five grandchildren: Kamilah, Garner, Edward, Bradley and William. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Tentatively, we are planning a private service to share stories and memories of Everett in Anchorage sometime in October 2026.
