Jul 27, 2021

David "Dave" Ryden Hines born Feb. 5, 1937, passed away on July 27, 2021, at the age of 84, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was predeceased by his wife, Maxine; parents, Wilford and Mildred; brothers, Bill and Tom. David is survived by his sisters, Sally and Susan; four children, Brion, Karen, Donna and Casey; their spouses, Lisa, Mark, Danny and Karyn; as well as six grandchildren, Danielle, Ryden, Lauren, Victoria, Holden, Hannis; great-grandson, Brax; and many nieces and nephews.

David was born and raised in Two Harbors, Minn., and enlisted in the Air Force in 1955, after graduating from Minneapolis Vocational High School. His sixth assignment was in Loring AFB, Maine. This is where he met the love of his life, Maxine. They created a beautiful family, traveled the world together and were married for a wonderful 62 years. David had five deployments overseas and was a Vietnam veteran. In 1982, David and his family moved to Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, with the military. He retired as Chief Master Sgt. in 1985, after 30 years of service. He resided the remainder of his years in Eagle River, Alaska.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to David. He was a traditional man who fancied a cup of coffee each morning as he skimmed the newspaper. David was a punctual, honest, hardworking and trustworthy man. His strong and proud personality was contagious to all who had the privilege of knowing him. David enjoyed working on cars, fishing and outdoor barbecues with his family, going to his children and grandchildren's sporting events - he was always a regular in the stands. Dave and Maxine would make it a point to indulge and pander to all children during the holidays to be sure it was a memorable one. He enjoyed playing cribbage at these outings as well whilst swilling his beer with one eye closed and saying, "I smell a skunk coming!"

A viewing will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Eagle River on Aug. 12, 2021, from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. In lieu of flowers, please consider an online donation to the VFW Post 9785.
