Charles E. Brasington

Charles Edmund Brasington, also known as Ned, passed away in Anchorage, Alaska, at 40 years old on Nov. 15, 2023. An accomplished lawyer, Ned served the Alaskan government as Assistant Attorney General.

Born in Iowa City, Iowa, on May 4, 1983, Ned graduated from Grinnell College in 2005 where he double majored in political science and German. He graduated with his J.D. in 2011. During his time at the University of Iowa, he worked on the law journal as editor. While still a law student, he interned with the Alaska Public Defender Agency in Nome.

Ned's personal interests were broad and eclectic. He was an experienced scuba diver with over 500 dives in his career, from the lakes of the Midwest to the oceans of Fiji. He loved playing music and video games, a passion he shared with his children. He loved animals, especially cats.

Ned is survived by his mother, Rebecca Margaret Bartow (Tom); children, Blake Brasington (Wukong) and Arthur Brasington (Wongzi); siblings and stepsiblings, William Bashert (Meredith), Elizabeth Dueweke (Sam), James Bartow, Joseph Bartow and Melissa Haralson; uncles and aunts, Eliza Willis (Janet Seiz), David Willis (Mika Obayashi), Mary Huebsch (Mark), Evan Brasington, Ben Brasington and Becky Brasington Clark (John Cronin); seven nephews and nieces; stepmother, Kathleen Ferrell; and friend and roommate, Ben Hanes. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Richard Brasington; brother, James Brasington; and uncle, Philip Brasington. He is also survived by his beloved cats, Meowtse, Pyewacket and Marie Laveau.
