Charles "Chuck" Gustav Anderson Jr.

May 18, 1929 -

Mar 30, 2022

On March 30, 2022, Charles "Chuck" Gustav Anderson Jr. passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side. Chuck leaves his wife Georgia of 70 years with a broken heart and several friends and family who were present very saddened.

Chuck was born on May 18, 1929, to Charles and Nellie (Simeonoff) Anderson on Long Island located 20 miles from Kodiak. His father Charles Gustav Anderson Sr. immigrated from Sweden in the early 1900s looking for a better life, eventually settling in Alaska. He leased Long Island from the government to raise fox and mink. When Chuck and his sister became school age, they moved into Kodiak. In his early years, Chuck worked with his father commercial fishing, and this is where his love for the ocean and fishing began.

Chuck dedicated most of his life to public service, starting with the Army during the Korean war. During that time at Ft. Richardson, Chuck proposed to Georgia by mail and asked her to come from New York to marry him. They were married in a quonset hut chapel on Ft. Richardson on Dec. 8, 1951, and have continued their love for 70 years.

Chuck began his law enforcement career joining the Anchorage Police Department in 1953, moving up the ranks and serving as Chief of Police for the last seven years before retiring after close to 30 years. After his retirement, he was elected to the Alaska State House of Representatives and has been a member of several State Boards and Commissions.

Chuck was a member of the CIRI Board of Directors for nearly 30 years before retiring as Chairman Emeritus. He recently served on the Board of Directors of Southcentral Foundation as Vice Chairman until his recent retirement. His dedication to both boards has been widely recognized and appreciated.

During their long marriage, Chuck and Georgia raised two children: Charlie and Patti. The family had many years of fun together at the cabin they built in 1958 on Big Lake. Chuck and Georgia also enjoyed boating and fishing in Seward, Whittier and Homer, the only problem was finding enough time to spend both at the cabin and fishing. Many happy times for Chuck, Georgia and Charlie were spent on the tennis courts at the Anchorage Racquet Club, all three playing tennis with their many tennis friends. Their many happy years were interrupted with the untimely death of their wonderful son Charlie, 11 years ago. Now Chuck and Charlie are together again renewing their loving time together.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Georgia; daughter, Patti Juliussen; grandson, Charles "Chas" Anderson IV; granddaughter, Katrina Juliussen-Mack; friends Kristina Anderson and Wyche Ford; and numerous other family and friends who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; mother, Nellie; brother, Herman; sister, Elsie; and by his loving son, Charles "Charlie" Anderson.

The family would like to thank Ancora Hospice and the entire Sailele family for their help during this difficult time. There will be a visitation at Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage on Thursday, April 7, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. The Funeral service will be conducted at ChangePoint Church on Friday, April 8, 2022, at 1 p.m.

In Chuck's memory, The Charles Anderson Scholarship Fund is being established by The CIRI Foundation for the purpose of annual awards towards the law enforcement field of study. Donations can be forwarded to The CIRI Foundation.
