Oct 20, 2025

Charles Armand Beirnard, very much loved husband of Antonia and father of Erin and Michael, died peacefully on Oct. 20, 2025, at home in Guilford, Conn., surrounded by his family.

Charles – Chuck – was born in Appleton, Wis., on April 21, 1944, the son of Cesar Beirnard and Evelyn Wilde Beirnard. He lived in Anchorage, Alaska, from 1980-2009, teaching as an associate professor of English at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He held degrees from the University of Wisconsin and The Ohio State University, and had also taught at Ohio State and Heidelberg University in Ohio as well as in Tehran, Iran.

Chuck loved his family, his pets, his work, his books and his gardening and landscaping. He traveled widely across this country and in others, with a special affinity for the Mediterranean. He lived with kindness and laughter, and he gave himself quietly to many positions of service.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Antonia Moras; his children; and many friends and students.

A memorial service was held in Guilford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to care for Alaska residents displaced from their homes by Typhoon Halong.
