Carl Jerome Koeniger

Aug 12, 2026

Carl was born in Boston, Mass., the oldest son of Dr. Peter J. Koeniger andMary L. Koeniger, with brothers Neil R. Koeniger and Stephen A. Koeniger, and sisters Martha J. Koeniger and Teresa A. Koeniger.

In 1950, Dr. Peter Koeniger read an ad for doctors needed in Anchorage, Alaska, that induced he and his wife to move their family. Alaska became the 49th state nine years later.

Carl played little league baseball as a youth. As a grown up, he played softball and on the German Soccer Club Team. He enjoyed Boy Scouts, camping and fishing. He loved playing board games, chess and cribbage.

Carl enjoyed his years in public radio, his accomplishments in the auto sales industry and his final work in advertising sales. Carl was a hard-working man. An intelligent, well-read man, Carl was a living encyclopedia of facts. He delighted in doing the New York crossword puzzle in ballpoint pen. He was happiest in life during the 23 years that he was married to his wife, Clara Meszaros Koeniger, and raised his four stepchildren from 1972 until 1995.

Carl enjoyed spending time with his children, his grandchildren, his family and his friends. He spent his final years living in the Anchorage Pioneers' Home due to medical conditions, and while there enjoyed both the company of his peers and watching sports programs on his television set. Carl was at peace with life and ready to meet his lord God when he drew his last breath.

Carl is survived by brother, Stephen and son; sister-in-law, Stephanie Koeniger and children; stepson, Mickey Meszaros with wife Keri and children; stepson, Bill Meszaros with wife Sharon and children; stepdaughter, Sherrie Brown with husband Greg and children; and stepdaughter, Kristie Hale with husband Jeremy and children.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church, 800 W. 5th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501.
