Bernice O. Lloyd was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. It is with profound sadness and much love that we announce her passing on Aug. 26, 2023, at age 78.

She was born the eldest daughter to James and Viola Pearson on Nov. 6, 1944, in Hattiesburg, Miss. It was her dear father who bestowed the nickname "Bunny," and her grandchildren who, decades later, lovingly made it her official title.

Bunny met her husband, Robert, "Bob," at Fort Ord, Calif., in 1970, and together they had four children. His military career led them to travel throughout the United States and Europe. She appreciated the majestic beauty of Alaska, and settled in the Bayshore neighborhood of Anchorage in 1994.

Bunny was devoted to her family, her work and her community. She was an avid reader and supporter of public education. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church; and, following her retirement from a career as a hiring manager at Fred Meyer, she volunteered with the Alaska Division of Elections as a poll worker.

Bunny was sadly preceded in death by her daughter, Ashley Gamage, in 2019. She is survived by her husband of 52 years; daughters, Donna Orton (Kevin) of Newcastle, Wash., and Adana Protonentis (Orion) of SeaTac, Wash.; son, Robert Lloyd Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; and 13 grandchildren. We will all miss her terribly.

A Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 8110 Jewel Lake Road in Anchorage, followed by a Funeral Mass at 2 p.m.
